SHOP & SEARCH, OR BROWSE ONLINE - Any time: La Diada de St Jordi (St George's Day) is the 23rd April. Not only is St Jordi the patron saint of England (and many other countries), he is also the patron saint of Catalunya. Celebrated for centuries in Catalunya as a day for lovers, with men giving a rose to their loved one, it is also the date on which both William Shakespeare and Miguel de Cervantes were born (in different years). It was therefore adopted by catalans as a day for the ladies to return the gifting of roses by buying a book for their man. It is now one of the region's major festivals and the busiest day of the year for many booksellers. The Book Cupboard (and later Busco Books) has been involved since 2003 (see photo above, from 2011). More info on the festivals of Spain
